less is more.

i have been recently reminded of how obsessed we are, as humans, to consume.

once a brisk breeze passes through, we are instantly hit with commercials promoting sales, displays of christmas decor that somehow is different from the year before & a lot of mariah carey.

i was reminded of this unnecessary inclination in a quite unfortunate lesson that the universe felt lead to teach. definitely a hard pill to swallow.

to make it short & sweet, recently, my balenciaga city bag was stolen. *clarification* my rare balenciaga city bag in an olive coloring with the most beautiful patina- was stolen.

and to be the most truthful, it wasn’t even the absence of the bag that hurt. yes, of course, this bag was my dream bag. but it was also a dream that i couldn’t technically afford.

what’s most ironic is that it was a night where i truly didn’t even need the bag- an empty bag, carried to be carried.

yet, in this distraught situation, it barely took me two days to realize that this supposed “great absence” didn’t feel any different. my life had felt no direct impact.

in its weird and mysterious ways, the universe taught me an important lesson. my all—something so eternal—shouldn’t be invested in a material good—something so temporary.

i have always been a consumer. in different parts of life, i have found myself consumed by my wants and disregarding myself in the process.

putting worth in moments, people and things instead of myself.

in a season where you are forced to consume, how can you put yourself first and even more so, the planet?

when we do consume, how can we make every purchase intentional and conscious?

in the attempt to encourage underconsumption this holiday season, i have pulled together some personal finds that are both sustainable and purposeful— all happen to be available locally to kc.
